How Informed Are You About The Bible?

When I was a kid, I was taught a song about reading the Holy Bible - "read your Bible and pray everyday,  as you grow, grow grow... Also, my grandparents would always make sure that my siblings and I could learn something new everyday or each week from reading the Bible. So although I'm not really a church or religion enthusiast, I was brought up having the fear of the Lord. But I know it's never enough. And these days, I'm one of the busy folks who no longer have the time to even look at the Bible. Honestly, it's more of like not putting so much effort into doing so. :(

Whether you are a believer or not, I think you have heard a lot of stuff about the Holy Bible. In fact, the Bible is still the world's best selling book. However, most people having a bible don't actually know the important things that make up a Bible. Some don't even give a damn reading it even just for once. Therefore, let me share to you the "basics" or the structure of the Bible:

The Bible, or the Christian Bible to be specific, is made up of 66 so-called "Books." Various "chapters" are what make up each book. The Chapters are then divided into "Verses" or the ones we commonly call as lines or passages from the bible.

It's being said, and believed by many - especially the Christians, that the Bible is a compilation of the "word of God" which was written by more or less 40 people from all over the world. He passed his words to his disciples, prophets and other messengers, including historians and poets, so it shall be spread and known.

The Bible used by the Christians or the Catholics are divided into the Old and New Testaments. It seems like you can find the prophecies about the Birth of Jesus from the Old testament while the New testament mostly tells the life of Jesus and other holy messages or prophecies, including the signs of the Second Coming of the Lord. Books from the Old testament were composed during the time of Moses.

The Old Testament has 39 books; from Genesis which has 50 chapters to the book of Malachi having 4 chapters only. Psalms, with 150 chapters, and Proverbs which is containing 31 chapters are perhaps the most popular books found in the Old Testament. Obadiah is the shortest book in this testament as it only contains 1 chapter; Psalms takes the lead in terms of length or number of chapters.

Books 1 to 5 of the Old Testament are commonly refered to as the Torah or the Pentateuch. Books 6 to 16 tells the history of Israel. Books 17 to 22 are known as the books of Poetry or Wisdom. It is from the books 23 to 27 that you can find many fulfilled prophecies from the regarded prophets such as Daniel, Isaiah and the others. The remaining books are short in length; thus termed as the Book of Minor Prophets.

On the other hand, 27 books comprise the New Testament. It is from Matthew, containing 28 chapters, until the book of Revelations with 22 chapters. The books of Acts and Matthew both have 28 chapters; the ones with the highest number of chapters. Philemon, 2 John, 3 John and Jude only have 1 chapter.

You can find the "four gospels" or the books of Mark, Matthew, John and Luke in the first 4 books of the New Testament. The Gospels tell about the life and teachings of Jesus. Moreover, Books 5 to 26 are what consist the Epistles, also known as Letters. And last but not the least is the Revelation. It is written by John upon given the "visions of the future." Most people know that this is where you can have a glimpse of the Apocalypse or the End of the World.
